DESTINY’S CALLING, Written, Produced and Directed by Samuel V. Langford.
Why are we here? What’s the meaning of life? These deep primal questions are answered in a whole new comedic light in Destiny’s Calling, an offbeat metaphysical comedy and morality tale, that shows that even the best among us are fallible, but in the end, there is no greater power in the universe than the human spirit.
SYNOPSIS
Earl Whitman, once the literary world’s great hope and imperious voice of a generation hasn’t finished a novel in a decade. His procrastination and bad habits are no secrets. His wife is at her wit’s end. His publisher drops him. Even his loyal friends and colleagues are losing faith. Finally one day, Earl gets a visit from that which even he cannot ignore. Enters The Universe… or the embodiment thereof. A Charismatic high-spirited Avatar with unimaginable powers comes to deliver a terrifying message to Earl. To whom much is given, much is expected. Earl Whitman has not lived up to his full potential, therefore… the end is near.
“Playwright and director Samuel Langford is a native of the Connecticut shoreline. He started in theatre in 1983 and has worked in the motion picture business since 1991. He’s been involved in over sixty feature films including Good Will Hunting, Suicide Kings, and Gods and Monsters.”
”Destiny’s Calling” marks Langford’s theatrical debut as a playwright and a director for the Los Angeles stage. The production has been developed through a series of stage readings at the LATC, the Black Box Theatre in Palm Springs, and the Coronet Theatre. Recently, Langford’s mentor and favorite writer Sidney Sheldon proclaimed, “Sam is a wonderful storyteller. His writing is original, funny and inspiring.”
”Destiny’s Calling” is the hilarious story about middle-aged novelist Earl Whitman. Earl, who hasn’t finished a work in seven years, since his last best-selling novel, watches as time passes before his eyes and as his peers and proteges rise above him. Frustrated with the way his life is going, Earl then gets a surprise visit by an out-of-this-world stranger who leads him on a journey to his destiny.”—SPLASH MAGAZINE

The 5th Dimension
Samuel V. Langford, is the Creator of the TV anthology series, Sci-fi comedy, the 5th Dimension. Described as a funnier, sexier anthology show, with a rock and roll sound, and a feel-good message. The series presents positive, forward-looking futurism, combining comedy, morality, and sex appeal, and features popular music from all eras. The 5th Dimension gives a nod to popular programs from the 60s as well as current day UFO folklore, and conspiracy theories while infusing the subject matter with its own originality and clever wit.
Mr. Langford wrote, produced and directed the pilot Close Encounters of a Different kind for the 5th Dimension series in 2010, an edgy sci-fi comedy and morality tale about alien abduction. The pilot stars, Sheree J Wilson, John Laughlin, and Taylor Negron. Wilson is best known for her role as the blond bombshell on the original Dallas and playing opposite Chuck Norris on Walker Texas Ranger. Laughlin is best known for the TV series The Defenders and films like The Rock. Negron is known for over 40 years of comedic acting and stage comedy as well as roles in major films like The Last Boy Scout and Angles in the Outfield. The host and narrator of the series was played by international model and TV personality, Michele Merkin. The pilot introduces, Collin Pelton, who plays the lead character, a bewildered yet likable teen in the throes of a pending alien abduction and the humor and madness that ensues.
Langford originally secured a TV co-development, co-production and distribution deal for the 5th Dimension (anthology series) from a leading television production and distribution company in LA, but felt hampered by the budgetary limitations being offered in regards to selling a television anthology at the time, and felt that the show would not be best served under the current conditions. Langford redeveloped and greatly expanded the 5th Dimension for the purpose of bringing it to the big screen now plans to launch the series as a major motion picture franchise. In its newest, more developed incarnation, as a Sci-fi metaphysical comedy, the series is no longer a traditional anthology where each episode is a completely different story-line with a different cast of characters but now the show will consist of a collection of trilogies. The first of which centers around the original story and central character, Daniel Arson but now with a greatly expanded plot-line and added characters. The original host, named Pandora also has a greatly expanded role. This new structure, a collection of trilogies, dualities, and single episode storylines will enable the series to more fully capitalize on Langford’s original ideas, stories, and characters while providing an open-ended format for limitless new stories and long-term growth potential for the franchise.
